Gurye-gun Selected for Ministry of Education School Complex Facility Contest
Secured 9 Billion KRW in Project Funds
Following the Education Development Special Zone, Achieved Double Victory in Ministry of Education Competitions
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that following its selection in the Ministry of Education's Education Development Special Zone contest in July, it was also chosen on August 8 for the 2024 second round of the School Complex Facility contest, securing a project budget of 9 billion KRW.
A total of 20 locations nationwide were selected for the 2024 Ministry of Education School Complex Facility contest, with Gurye-gun being the only one in Jeollanam-do.
The School Complex Facility contest is a project that installs libraries, care centers, and other facilities that can be used jointly by students and local residents in schools located in areas lacking educational and cultural facilities.
The target school for the complex facility in Gurye-gun is Gwangui Elementary School, located in the central region of the county. According to county officials, Gwangui Elementary School has the advantage of being situated within a 1km radius of concentrated villages, making it conducive to creating an educational environment that coexists with local residents.
Through this project, the county plans to address the issue of welfare and cultural facilities being concentrated in the Gurye-eup area by establishing care centers, libraries, lifelong learning centers, and happy family complex centers, thereby revitalizing small schools in township areas facing closure risks.
The main complex facilities include hub-type care facilities, lifelong education rooms, community-linked village libraries, student safety care spaces (Day-care-space), customized club rooms, AI digital experience rooms, and empathy communication communities.
County Governor Kim Soon-ho stated, “This project will greatly contribute to expanding opportunities for rural student residents to communicate with local people and to creating a pleasant educational environment.”
He added, “We plan to establish the nation’s first integrated care model for all age groups throughout their life cycles, creating an attractive residential environment to prevent local extinction.”
