Chairman Chung Eui-sun Meets Indonesian Minister of Economy to Discuss Electric Vehicle and Hydrogen Cooperation
Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, recently met with Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, who visited Korea, to discuss various cooperation plans including electric vehicles and hydrogen businesses.
Minister Hartarto announced on his social media account on the 20th that he met Chairman Chung at a location in Seoul to discuss cooperation plans for electric vehicle and hydrogen businesses. He highly praised Hyundai Motor's efforts in leading hydrogen projects worldwide and mentioned his particular interest in the business of converting waste into hydrogen. Through this meeting, Hyundai Motor decided to jointly promote local hydrogen projects with Indonesia's state-owned oil company, Pertamina.

Additionally, Minister Hartarto emphasized collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group in the electric vehicle sector. He stated, "The Indonesian government is accelerating electric vehicle development by preparing a roadmap, providing various incentives, and creating an electric vehicle ecosystem," adding, "Hyundai Motor's investment in Indonesia's electric vehicle sector, including the establishment of a complete vehicle factory, battery cell factory, and battery pack factory, is exemplary."
Present at the meeting were Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor, Kim Il-beom, Vice President of GPO in charge of overseas government relations, and Sung Kim, former U.S. Ambassador. Ambassador Kim was appointed as a diplomatic advisor to Hyundai Motor Group at the end of last year.
Hyundai Motor Group has been steadily increasing investments to build Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem. In 2022, it completed Southeast Asia's first complete vehicle factory in Bekasi, Indonesia, producing electric vehicle models such as the Ioniq 5 and the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) Staria.

Moreover, Hyundai Motor Group is constructing an electric vehicle battery factory with an annual capacity of 10GWh in Karawang, Indonesia, in partnership with LG Energy Solution. Mass production is set to begin in the second half of this year, with plans to increase production capacity to 30GWh in the future. Hyundai Mobis is also establishing a battery system factory in Indonesia.
