Kia Plans Large PBV Factory Construction in Hwaseong... Targeting Mass Production by 2028
Kia is planning to build its second purpose-built vehicle (PBV) dedicated factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
According to the Kia labor union on the 13th, Kia proposed to the union during the 15th wage and collective bargaining negotiation held the previous day in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, a plan to build a new large PBV-dedicated factory in Hwaseong.
Kia is considering constructing the new PBV factory on the site of the existing factory within Autoland Hwaseong (formerly Hwaseong Plant) in Hwaseong City.
The factory is reportedly aimed to start mass production in 2028. If Kia finalizes the plan to build the new PBV factory, it will become the second PBV-dedicated production facility in South Korea.
Earlier, in April, Kia held a groundbreaking ceremony for a mid-sized PBV factory at Autoland Hwaseong and is currently under construction. Kia aims to begin mass production of mid-sized PBVs from 2025 after the completion of this factory.
Regarding this, a Kia official stated, "We cannot confirm the details currently under negotiation between labor and management."
