"Strengthening Honors for Righteous Citizens" Amendment to Daejeon City Enforcement Rules
Daejeon City has revised related enforcement regulations to strengthen the recognition of righteous citizens.
On the 6th, Daejeon City announced that it had amended the "Enforcement Regulations on the Recognition and Support for Righteous Citizens of Daejeon City" last May to enhance the recognition of righteous citizens.
The enforcement regulations were revised to increase the consolation payment given to righteous persons (義人) who died or were injured while performing righteous acts such as saving others' lives or property, from the existing 10 million KRW to 30 million KRW.
According to the revised enforcement regulations, Daejeon City will provide up to 20 million KRW (previously 7 million KRW) to citizens injured during righteous acts, and 30 million KRW (previously 10 million KRW) in case of death. Additionally, a consolation payment of up to 10 million KRW (previously 5 million KRW) can be provided to those who have honored the reputation of Daejeon City.
Righteous acts are defined as acts such as preventing crimes like robbery, theft, or assault, apprehending criminals, saving the life or body of others endangered by natural disasters, fires, transportation accidents, wild animal attacks, water-related accidents, or taking emergency measures.
Applications for consolation payments can be made by the righteous citizen themselves or their family within six months from the date of the righteous act by submitting a recognition application form, injury diagnosis (or death certificate), and incident or accident confirmation documents from police or fire departments proving the righteous act to the Welfare Policy Division of Daejeon City.
