Hyundai Mobis Develops Technology for Single-Attempt Parking in Designated Spaces
Implemented with Ultrasonic and Surround View Monitor Cameras
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 19th that it has successfully developed the improved performance version of the next-generation parking control system (MPS) it first developed worldwide in 2021, called ‘MPS 1.0P’.

The new version adds parking control new technologies and core element technologies to the existing technology. Memory Parking Assist (MPA) is a representative feature. When the driver executes parking in route learning mode, the vehicle learns by itself, enabling autonomous parking with just a button operation by the driver in the same parking space from next time onward.
The company explained that this system was implemented using only ultrasonic sensors and Surround View Monitor (SVM) cameras without expensive radar or LiDAR (a technology where sensors rapidly rotate and lasers are scanned 360 degrees via mirrors). Using information obtained from these two, vehicle position measurement and map creation can be performed simultaneously. Applying this technology derived from robotics improves accuracy and supports a storage distance of up to 100 meters.
This system has added 'Memory Parking Assist,' which automatically parks along a learned route without driver steering input, and a parking line recognition function.

The company expects this technology to be useful for customers who use designated parking zones or private garages, as remote parking is possible at the same location based on pre-learned driving routes.

The Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) system has also been enhanced. The existing system operated only when other vehicles were present around the parking space because it recognized parking spaces using ultrasonic sensors. Hyundai Mobis added parking line recognition functionality through video-based sensor fusion. This allows autonomous parking by recognizing parking lines even in empty parking spaces without vehicles. This technology has been applied to Kia’s electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) EV9, Genesis G90, GV60, and Ioniq 6.
