Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Inspects Total Price Display System... Fines Imposed on 12 Domestic and International Airlines
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 6th that it has inspected compliance with the provision of information on the total amount of airfares (total price display system) for domestic and international airlines and decided to impose fines on 12 airlines that violated the regulations.
The total price display system is a mandatory system implemented since July 2014 that requires price information exposed during airline ticket comparison and selection to be provided as the total amount the consumer must pay. The price information includes the total amount including base fare, fuel surcharge, airport facility usage fees, and indication of one-way or round-trip status.
This surprise inspection was conducted from July 19 to July 28 through the websites of domestic and international airlines, and for domestic airlines, social media (SNS) advertisements were also included in the inspection.
As a result of this surprise inspection, 12 airlines were found to have displayed airline ticket price information not as the total amount but △only the base fare or △without indicating whether it was one-way or round-trip, and a fine of 2 million KRW was decided according to Article 84 of the Aviation Business Act.
Looking at major violation cases, Airline A displayed the one-way fare of 7,900 KRW on the homepage first screen for the Daegu-Jeju route, although the actual total fare was 19,600 KRW.
Airline B posted a first-come, first-served base fare of 100,000 KRW on its website for the Incheon-Macau route, although the total fare was 154,900 KRW, and Airline C ran advertisements on social media without indicating whether the fare was one-way or round-trip.
