Three Subjects Including Mathematics to Continue from the 12th
South Korean teenagers won one gold medal and three silver medals at the International Biology Olympiad, achieving 10th place overall among participating countries.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 11th that the Korean delegation won medals across the board at the 34th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, from the 3rd to the 11th.
The competition featured 298 students from 76 countries worldwide. The Korean team included Jeong Ye-chan (Gyeonggi Science High School, 3rd year), who won a gold medal, and Kim Bo-ran (Gwangju Science High School, 3rd year), Kim Hee-won (Daegu Science High School, 3rd year), and Lee Hwa-in (Seoul Science High School, 3rd year), each of whom won silver medals, resulting in all members earning medals and securing 10th place in the overall national ranking. India and Singapore tied for first place with four gold medals each.
Notably, Jeong Ye-chan achieved excellent results by winning medals for two consecutive years, earning a silver medal last year and a gold medal this year, ranking 9th individually.
