Korea University Receives 63 Billion Won Donation from Anonymous Philanthropist
Korea University announced on the 26th that it received a donation of 63 billion KRW from an anonymous philanthropist.
The 63 billion KRW is the largest donation amount since Korea University was founded in 1905, the second largest single donation amount to a domestic university, and the highest known anonymous donation.
On the 24th, Pusan National University abruptly canceled the admission of Cho Min, daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, to the medical school. Consequently, Cho Min's medical license will also be revoked, and Korea University is expected to follow Pusan National University, signaling potential repercussions. Meanwhile, the largest single donation amount ever to a domestic university was 76.6 billion KRW donated to KAIST by Lee Soo-young, chairman of Kwangwon Industry, aged 83.
