Flitto's Menu Translation Surpasses 5 Million Views
Accurate Translation Without Errors and QR-Based Convenience
Premium Multilingual Service Enhanced with GPT Menu Description Function
AI language data specialist Flitto announced on the 14th that the number of views for its digital multilingual translation service, ‘Flitto Menu Translation,’ has surpassed 5 million. Since launching the service in May last year, the number of users has increased alongside the rise in foreign tourists.
Flitto Menu Translation has been adopted by premium complex cultural spaces such as ‘The Hyundai Seoul,’ Korea’s representative traditional market ‘Tongin Market,’ over 200 stores in Jeju Island, as well as restaurants overseas in Japan and Middle Eastern countries. Visitors can easily check multilingual menus simply by scanning QR codes within the stores. They can read the menu in the same language as their smartphone without needing to install a separate real-time translation app. After providing the service through a project with Jeju Tourism Organization, discussions are expanding with other local governments.
Menu translation is one of the most challenging translation tasks because it must convey not only the names of dishes but also ingredients, cooking methods, and unique food culture. Flitto Menu Translation completes accurate and natural multilingual menus by first using Flitto AI for initial translation, followed by a review process by platform translators. Recently, a menu description feature linked with GPT was added to Flitto AI, enabling users to understand unfamiliar dishes in their own language.
Flitto CEO Lee Jeong-su explained, "Flitto Menu Translation is thoroughly designed around the experiences of store owners and visitors," adding, "Accurate translation is as important as ease of use because it connects to brand image." He continued, "From premium department stores in Korea to Michelin-starred restaurants, local governments, and traditional markets, many are seeking Flitto’s services," and "We are focusing on providing the best service as well as building and refining high-quality data."
CEO Lee also stated, "We plan to aggressively expand language data businesses in various fields to be used for reinforcement learning of AI engines such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), neural Machine Translation (nMT), and chatbots."
