Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 31st, it held a special training session on preventing sexual harassment and sexual violence at the provincial government auditorium, attended by about 300 senior officials including Governor Kim Dong-yeon, the first and second vice governors for administration and economy, heads of departments, division chiefs, and team leaders.
Before the training, Governor Kim stated, "Culture is changing at a very rapid pace, but it is difficult for us to change ourselves. Things we do unconsciously can be sexual harassment to others and can seriously threaten gender equality. Last week, when announcing measures to establish public service discipline, we declared a zero-tolerance policy for sexual violence and sexual harassment that may occur. I instructed to handle these matters quickly without going through lengthy procedures. We must enforce strict punishment and zero tolerance."
He added, "I want to change the culture of the public service. Starting with sexual harassment and sexual violence, I hope to reduce overtime culture, unnecessary paperwork, and other such tasks so that more time can be spent on new creativity and new attempts. Without breaking the mold, creativity is impossible. I hope we reflect on ourselves and consider even those things we are not aware of, and break those first."
At the training, Professor Jang Jae-sung from the Korean National Police University, currently serving as a non-standing Gender Equality Ombudsman for Gyeonggi Province, gave a lecture titled "Analysis of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Cases and the Role of Public Officials."
Earlier, from the 22nd to the 26th, Gyeonggi Province conducted a workplace sexual harassment prevention campaign under the slogan "Opportunity for Change! Creating a Gyeonggi Provincial Government that Respects Boundaries."
Employees wrote messages to eradicate sexual harassment and hung them on a human rights tree, and sexual harassment prevention plant tags were placed in offices. Promotion of counseling channels for sexual harassment and sexual violence grievances was also carried out.
