Danny Lee "Victory in Playoff"..."Did You See the Putter Birdie Outside the Green?"
LIV Golf Invitational Tucson Final Round 3
Danny Lee (New Zealand) wins in a playoff.
On the 20th (Korean time), Danny Lee shot a 2-under-par 69 in the final third round of the LIV Golf Invitational Tucson (total prize money $25 million) held at The Gallery Golf Club (par 71, 7,469 yards) in Tucson, Arizona, USA. He tied with Louis Oosthuizen (South Africa), Brendon Steele (USA), and Carlos Ortiz (Mexico) at 9-under-par 204, then clinched the victory with a winning birdie on the 18th hole (par 4) in the third playoff hole. This is his first win in two tournaments since joining LIV Golf, earning a winner's prize of $4 million (approximately 5.2 billion KRW). It is his first victory in 7 years and 8 months since the 2015 PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic.
Danny Lee made six birdies and four bogeys. Ortiz was the first to be eliminated after making a bogey in the first playoff hole with four players. In the second playoff hole, all three players made pars, so the match continued. In the third playoff hole, Danny Lee missed the green with his second shot but holed his third shot with the putter. Danny Lee exclaimed, "I kept focusing only on the team score," adding, "The team also achieved a good result (3rd place), and I am very happy to have won the individual title."
Danny Lee is a Korean New Zealander. His Korean name is Lee Jin-myeong. As an amateur in 2009, he won the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) Johnnie Walker Classic and reached No. 1 in the amateur world rankings. On the PGA Tour, he earned one victory at the Greenbrier Classic. Last month, he left the PGA Tour and joined LIV Golf. He is the third Korean player to join LIV Golf after Kevin Na and Kim Si-hwan (both USA).
