3 Members Reported for Union Election Violations, Gyeongnam Election Commission Pledges "Relentless Pursuit"
The Gyeongnam Election Commission announced on the 8th that it has reported three individuals to the police on charges of violating the Act on Public Organizations' Consigned Elections related to the 3rd Nationwide Simultaneous Cooperative Association Head Election.
According to the Gyeongnam Election Commission, cooperative executive A was reported on the 6th for providing 300,000 KRW in cash to a cooperative member met at the cooperative in early March, urging support for a specific candidate.
Delegate B, who visited a cooperative member's home in late February and provided 300,000 KRW in cash, claiming it was "provided by a specific candidate," and C, who provided 2,000,000 KRW in cash to a cooperative member in early March urging support for a specific candidate, were reported on the 8th.
According to Article 24 of the relevant law on the subject, period, and method of election campaigning, no one except candidates may conduct election campaigning by any means, and election campaigning is limited to the period from the day after the candidate registration deadline to the day before the election.
According to Article 32 on the definition of donation acts and Article 35, Paragraph 2 on restrictions on donation acts, no one may make or cause to make donation acts for candidates regarding the consigned election during the donation restriction period.
It is stipulated that making donations in the name of a candidate or in a manner that can be presumed to be a donation by the candidate is regarded as a donation act for the candidate regarding the consigned election.
