Naver Temporarily Delays Introduction of News 'Outlink'
Naver will temporarily postpone the introduction of 'outlink,' which directs users to media outlets' websites to read articles.
On the 7th, Naver announced in a notice sent to partner media companies that it will "reconsider the pilot operation of outlink scheduled for April 1."
Since announcing in November last year that it would introduce outlink based on media companies' choices, Naver held briefing sessions from the 22nd to the 24th of last month to inform about the new news operation policy.
In this regard, some media companies and partner outlets reportedly raised concerns that Naver's outlink operation guidelines are excessively strict and that the introduction of outlink could lead to a decline in service quality. Particularly, strong concerns were raised mainly by small-scale media companies lacking the capacity to maintain their own websites.
