Kakao Games Achieves Record Revenue of 1.1477 Trillion KRW Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Kakao Games achieved its highest annual performance last year.
Kakao Games announced on the 8th that it recorded sales of 1.1477 trillion KRW and an operating profit of 177.7 billion KRW last year. These figures represent increases of 13% and 59%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, sales were 235.7 billion KRW and operating profit was 10.8 billion KRW, representing decreases of approximately 18% and 76%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
Last year's performance was influenced by the solid results of existing games such as "Odin: Valhalla Rising," which consistently ranks among the top in sales, and new games like "Uma Musume Pretty Derby." Additionally, growth in other revenues from non-gaming sectors such as Kakao VX and Senatechnology contributed to achieving the highest sales and operating profit since the company's founding.
Kakao Games aims for "Beyond Korea" in 2023. It plans to expand its reach not only domestically but also into the global market, introducing new titles across various genres. The company intends to strengthen continuous external growth through securing its own intellectual property (IP) and expanding its global pipeline.
Starting with "Eversoul," released last month, Kakao Games plans to sequentially launch various new titles such as "ArcheAge War," "Ares: Rise of Guardians," and "Godis Order" in domestic and overseas markets.
They will expand their service range with the entry of "Odin: Valhalla Rising" into Japan, North America, and Europe, as well as the release of "Eversoul" in the Japanese market. By building a robust infrastructure including multi-chain and marketplace through Metabora, they will expand the "BORA" ecosystem and release blockchain games in the global market, securing growth momentum in the Web3 market.
