This book is the first comprehensive English professional book focusing on the biochemistry of marine organisms, extensively covering the functions of components found in marine organisms, metabolism and metabolites, functional substances, natural product separation techniques, and their biological, food science, medical, and industrial applications.
Pukyong National University stated, "New technologies utilizing marine biological resources are expected to replace and transform existing bio-industries and petroleum-based chemical industries, so this book highlighting the biochemical value of marine organisms will attract even more attention."
Professor Emeritus Kim Se-gwon said, "With the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the development of underwater robots, submersibles, underwater drones, and unmanned automated raw material harvesting vessels will establish automated systems like smart farms in the sea, enabling mass production of marine organisms. The biochemical resources of marine organisms will then be utilized as highly valuable essential resources."
Professor Emeritus Kim Se-gwon served as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Pukyong National University from 1982 until his retirement. After retirement, he began as a research special professor at Pukyong National University and served as a distinguished professor at Korea Maritime and Ocean University and Hanyang University.
