Professor Kim Seonjeong's 'Neulsum Dance Company' Wins the President's Award at the '2022 Korea Dance Awards'
Professor Kim Seonjeong of Dankook University’s Department of Dance (pictured) led the Neulsum Dance Company’s performance “Boundary of the Horizon,” which won the Presidential Award at the “2022 Korea Dance Awards.” Neulsum Dance Company is composed of dancers who graduated from Dankook University, including choreographer Kim Jin-ah (doctoral candidate at Dankook University, currently a member of the Cheonan City Dance Company), instructor Jo Seung-ryeol (completed master’s at Dankook University, currently a member of the National Dance Company), lead dancer Kim Da-sol (completed master’s at Dankook University, principal dancer of Gangwon Provincial Dance Company), as well as Lee Hye-in and Kim Eun-su.
The Korea Dance Association announced the results of the final competition on the 12th. The final competition was held on the 9th at the Arko Arts Theater Grand Theater in Daehak-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, alongside the “2022 Night of Korean Dancers” event. In the finals, Toitmaru Dance Company’s “New World” (choreographed by Yoo Min-kyung) and Neulsum Dance Company’s “Boundary of the Horizon” competed. Based on the judging by seven professional judges and ten citizen judges, Neulsum Dance Company received the Presidential Award. The “Korea Dance Awards” is a representative domestic dance competition hosted by the Korea Dance Association since 2008.

Professor Kim Seonjeong, who serves as the artistic director of the 43rd Seoul Dance Festival, has received numerous awards at prestigious domestic and international competitions, including the Excellence Award in the competition category at the 34th Seoul Dance Festival in 2014 and the Presidential Award, the grand prize in the competition category at the 23rd National Dance Festival in 2015. She is a holder of the National Intangible Cultural Property No. 92 Taepyeongmu and a transmitter of Seoul Intangible Cultural Property No. 46 Salpuri Dance. She is also the daughter of the late Kim Seong-chan, a Gwangju citizen soldier who died from aftereffects of the May 18 Gwangju Uprising.
