An album that has sold over 65 million copies worldwide is being re-released to celebrate its 40th anniversary. It is Michael Jackson's 'Thriller.'
Sony Music announced on the 21st that they will release 'Thriller 40,' a double CD set including previously unreleased tracks. 'Thriller' is Jackson's sixth studio album, released in 1983. Seven of the nine songs included became hits. These include 'The Girl Is Mine,' a duet with Paul McCartney, 'Billie Jean,' famous for the moonwalk dance that looks like gliding backward, and 'Beat It,' featuring guitarist Eddie Van Halen. It sold 32 million copies in the United States alone.
Thanks to its global success, Jackson became an entertainer and artist symbolizing modern popular music. His cumulative album sales reach 1 billion copies. He also holds thirteen number-one singles on the charts. He was recognized as the 'Artist of the Century' by the American Music Awards and set a record with 17 Grammy wins.

The newly added songs include ten tracks such as the demos 'Who Do You Know,' 'Carousel,' and 'Sunset Driver.' To commemorate the re-release, Sony Music will also release 4K high-definition music videos of 'Beat It' and 'Thriller.' They can be viewed on Jackson's official YouTube channel. Pop-up events and campaigns celebrating the 40th anniversary will be held at famous locations worldwide. In Korea, a screening of the documentary 'Thriller 40' will take place on the 30th.
