View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] Cameron Smith (Australia), ranked 3rd in the world, won the title in just his second tournament after transferring to the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
On the 18th (local time), Smith shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of the 5th tournament held at Rich Harvest Farms (par 72, 7,408 yards) in Sugar Grove near Chicago, Illinois, USA. He finished at 13-under 203 to claim the top spot. He won by three strokes over Dustin Johnson and Peter Uihlein (both USA), who tied for second place.
Smith transferred to LIV Golf after finishing the 2021-2022 PGA Tour season last month. After finishing tied for 4th in his debut at the Boston tournament on the 5th of this month, he lifted the winner’s trophy in just his second appearance. Although he stumbled with a bogey on the 16th hole, back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes sealed his victory.
The total prize money for this tournament was $25 million (1.39 trillion KRW), with the individual winner’s prize at $4 million (5.56 billion KRW). Smith has already earned more than half of the $10 million he received last season on the PGA Tour after just two LIV Golf events.
Dustin Johnson, who won the previous Boston tournament, managed to reduce his score by only two strokes today, finishing tied for second at 10-under 206. However, in the team event, the '4 Aces' team, consisting of Johnson, Taylor Gooch, Pat Perez, and Patrick Reed (all USA), won their fourth consecutive tournament with a combined score of 24-under. The prize money was $3 million (4.17 billion KRW).
