A Total of 7,829 Candidates Registered for the June 3 Local Elections

View original imageThe National Election Commission announced on the 16th that after accepting registrations for two days on the 14th and 15th for candidates for metropolitan mayors, basic local government heads, metropolitan council members, basic council members, proportional metropolitan council members, proportional basic council members, superintendents of education, and National Assembly members, the final tally reached this figure.
The average competition rate was 1.8 to 1, which is similar to the record low seen in the 2022 local elections.
In this election, a total of 16 metropolitan mayors, 227 basic local government heads, 933 metropolitan council members (including proportional seats), 3,035 basic council members (including proportional seats), 16 superintendents of education, and 14 National Assembly members will be elected.
The metropolitan mayor elections saw 54 candidates register, resulting in a competition rate of 3.4 to 1.
For the basic local government head elections, 585 candidates registered (2.6 to 1); for metropolitan council member elections, 1,657 candidates registered (2.1 to 1); and for basic council member elections, 4,402 candidates registered (1.7 to 1).
In addition, there are 354 candidates for proportional metropolitan council members (2.7 to 1), 672 candidates for proportional basic council members (1.7 to 1), and 58 candidates for superintendent of education (3.6 to 1).
