Central Labor Relations Commission: "Samsung Electronics Labor-Management Post-Mediation to Resume at 10 a.m. on the 18th"
Likely the Final Negotiation Before the General Strike
Samsung Electronics management and labor have requested a renewed post-mediation session from the Central Labor Relations Commission.
The Central Labor Relations Commission announced on the 16th that it had received a request for post-mediation from both Samsung Electronics' management and labor, and that it plans to hold the second post-mediation meeting at 10:00 a.m. on the 18th. Previously, from May 11 to the early hours of May 13, Samsung Electronics' management and labor engaged in marathon negotiations under the Commission's mediation, but failed to bridge differences over performance-based bonus criteria and other issues, resulting in a breakdown of the talks.

That afternoon, Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, issued a public apology, and the company replaced its chief negotiator, which was one of the union’s demands. In response, Choi Seungho, Head of the Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group Super-Enterprise Labor Union, stated that negotiations would resume.
The second post-mediation meeting, scheduled for the 18th, is expected to be virtually the last opportunity for both sides to negotiate before a general strike. The union plans to launch an 18-day general strike from May 21 through July 7.
