Pohang Daehung Middle School experienced a landslide on the rear side of the main building due to Typhoon Hinnamnor, resulting in the loss of the parking lot and roads, as well as damage to nearby buildings and vehicles.

On the 14th, the Ministry of Education announced that it will prioritize providing disaster countermeasure special grants totaling 4.693 billion KRW to Daeheung Middle School, Namseong Elementary School, and Indeok Elementary School, where the damage from Typhoon Hinnamnor is extensive and urgent restoration is needed.
At Daeheung Middle School in Pohang, landslides behind the teacher's building caused the loss of parking lots and roads, and nearby buildings and vehicles were damaged. Namseong Elementary School was completely flooded on the first floor, and Indeok Elementary School suffered flooding in the playground and teacher's building.
The special grant amounts are 1.845 billion KRW for Daeheung Middle School, 1.984 billion KRW for Namseong Elementary School, and 864 million KRW for Indeok Elementary School.
Pohang Namseong Elementary School's first floor was completely flooded as Typhoon Hinnamnor passed through.
View original imageThe Ministry of Education changed the support procedure to first provide the full amount requested after confirming the extent of the damage, and then have the Office of Education review the appropriateness of construction methods, quantities, and unit prices during the design phase for later settlement.
According to the Ministry's investigation of typhoon damage, a total of 208 schools suffered landslides, roof material loss, classroom flooding, or leakage damage.
For damaged schools not included in this initial priority support, if they apply for disaster countermeasure special grants, support will be promptly provided after on-site inspections.
On the same day, Deputy Minister Jang Sang-yoon visited Daeheung Middle School to inspect the site and listen to the needs for support to restore the damaged facilities.

Deputy Minister Jang said, "We will prioritize disaster countermeasure special grants to schools severely damaged by this typhoon, and promptly support other damaged schools through on-site inspections," adding, "We will do our best to restore the damage quickly through swift support so that students can focus on their studies in a normal environment as soon as possible."
