Park Bo-gyun Visits Frieze: "I Will Widely Promote Korean Artists and Works"
On the 2nd, Freeze and KIAF held at COEX
"Domestic and international art lovers and experts gather with joy"
Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, met with Simon Fox, Chair of the Frieze Board, and Hwang Dal-seong, Chair of the KIAF Board, on the 2nd to discuss the overseas expansion of Korean art. Frieze is a world-renowned art fair held in London, New York, LA, and other cities. This year, it was held in Korea for the first time in Asia. It opened on the 2nd at COEX alongside KIAF, the largest domestic art market.
The minister toured the event venue and confirmed the growth potential of the Korean art market. Last year, the domestic art market size was approximately 917.5 billion KRW, a 179% increase from the previous year (327.7 billion KRW). Overseas interest in domestic artists such as Park Seo-bo, Park Dae-sung, and Lee Ufan has also greatly increased.
Minister Park viewed works by artists including Kim Ku-rim, Lee Gun-yong, Park Hyun-ki, and Seo Do-ho. He also visited the Gagosian Gallery, which held an exhibition of Nam June Paik in New York, and the Aquavella Galleries, which exhibited works by Picasso, Giacometti, Matisse, and Mondrian.

He told the two chairs, "I am very pleased that art lovers and experts from home and abroad have gathered in Korea," adding, "We will spare no effort to support Korean artists and their works to become known worldwide."
