View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Woo-seok] Kwon Eun-hee, floor leader of the People’s Party, criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, for his press conference on the failure of unification on the 28th, calling it "evasion of responsibility," and firmly stated that there is no longer any possibility of opposition unification.
On the same day, Floor Leader Kwon appeared on CBS Radio’s "Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show" and said, "Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol held a press conference yesterday regarding the failure of unification," adding, "In fact, the content of that press conference was not only false and exaggerated but also an evasion of responsibility related to unification, which the candidate conducted even canceling his campaign during precious time."
Regarding the behind-the-scenes negotiations for unification with the People Power Party, he said, "It is completely untrue that (People’s Party lawmaker) Lee Tae-gyu had full authority to negotiate with the People Power Party, and it is a matter where he could not have negotiated with full authority," pointing out, "The Yoon Seok-yeol camp came out with the position that it was not unification but that candidate Ahn Cheol-soo should withdraw."
He continued, "The People’s Party thought, ‘Withdrawal is out of the question, and unification will be done through a public opinion poll,’ so they met with completely different positions," adding, "It was not a situation where the word ‘negotiation’ could be explained in words."
Regarding the dawn meeting between Jang Je-won and Lee Tae-gyu before Yoon’s press conference, he said, "It seems that lawmakers Jang Je-won and Lee Tae-gyu made efforts between the 26th and 27th to have (Yoon Seok-yeol and Ahn Cheol-soo) meet, not for unification," and mentioned, "The calls that went on all night were efforts by the two to get the two candidates to meet."
