Presidential Candidates' 2nd TV Debate Ratings at 21.4%... Decline from 1st Debate Due to Olympic Impact
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The viewership rating for the second 4-party TV debate of the 20th presidential election candidates was recorded at 21.37%. This is about 18 percentage points lower than the 39% rating of the first debate.
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings survey company, the '20th Presidential Election Candidates Invitation Debate,' which was simultaneously broadcast live on six channels ? four comprehensive programming channels (MBN, JTBC, Channel A, TV Chosun) and two news-specialized channels (Yonhap News TV, YTN) ? from 8:00 PM to 10:17 PM on the 11th, recorded a viewership rating of 21.37%.
The ratings by channel were as follows: MBN 4.653%, JTBC 4.386%, Channel A 3.617%, TV Chosun 3.41%, YTN 3.388%, and Yonhap News TV 1.916%.
This debate's viewership rating fell by 17.63 percentage points compared to the 39% rating of the debate broadcast live by the three terrestrial broadcasters KBS, MBC, and SBS on the 3rd.
It is analyzed that the ratings dropped because the three terrestrial broadcasters simultaneously aired the 2022 Beijing Olympics, including the women's 1000m short track speed skating event where athlete Choi Min-jeong won the silver medal, during the same time slot.
