Kia New Niro Records 16,300 Pre-Orders on First Day... Second Highest Ever
Second Highest Record Among Kia SUVs Following Sorento
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Kia announced on the 19th that the first-day pre-orders for the new eco-friendly sports utility vehicle (SUV), the new Niro, conducted through Kia stores nationwide on the 18th, totaled 16,300 units. This is the second-highest record among Kia SUVs, following the Sorento (18,941 units).
The Niro, launched in 2016, has sold a total of 675,798 units worldwide (131,157 units domestically) up to last year. The company explained that the success of the new Niro is due to its highest combined fuel efficiency among domestic SUVs, various eco-friendly materials and technologies, practical space utilization, and convenience features that surpass its class.
The new Niro is equipped with a Smartstream G1.6 hybrid engine and a 32 kW motor, delivering a system maximum output (including motor output) of 141 horsepower, achieving the highest combined fuel efficiency of 20.8 km/l among domestic SUVs. Among gasoline SUVs currently on sale, the new Niro is the only model with fuel efficiency in the 20 km/l range.
Additionally, by applying the third-generation platform, the larger body secures excellent space utilization, while the SUV features a sophisticated and bold exterior design, a 10.25-inch panoramic display, and a passenger seat relaxation comfort seat, providing a luxurious interior design.
A Kia official stated, "The new Niro is Kia's representative eco-friendly model with the highest combined fuel efficiency among domestic SUVs," adding, "Reflecting customers' expectations proven through this pre-order performance, we will lead the eco-friendly SUV market in the future."
