President Moon: "Korea-UAE Cooperation on Hydrogen and Smart Cities... Expecting Synergy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in stated that South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will cooperate for carbon neutrality in the fields of hydrogen and smart cities.
On the 17th (local time), President Moon attended the opening ceremony of the 'Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week' held at the Dubai Expo Exhibition Center and said, "South Korea will join hands more firmly with the UAE for a sustainable future."
President Moon emphasized, "The two countries are currently cooperating to build a hydrogen economy, which can be a new energy source in the carbon-neutral era," adding, "The UAE and South Korea are jointly developing blue hydrogen and are promoting the construction of a large-scale blue ammonia plant."
He continued, "We are also planning joint research and demonstration projects for hydrogen production and utilization," and added, "I hope that the hydrogen cooperation between the UAE and South Korea will accelerate carbon neutrality and a sustainable future."
He also said, "Smart cities are another area where synergy from cooperation between the two countries is expected," and predicted, "Smart cities will be cities that reduce carbon emissions and improve quality of life through information and communication technology (ICT) and eco-friendly energy technologies."
President Moon stated, "If we combine the experiences and strengths of both countries, the most exemplary smart city will be completed," and added, "The two countries also plan to jointly develop a 'hydrogen city' based on a hydrogen public transportation system."
President Moon noted that the UAE has taken the lead in responding to climate change, starting with the construction of the world's first carbon-neutral city, Masdar City, in 2008, and declaring carbon neutrality for 2050 last year, the first in the Middle East region, and said South Korea will also contribute to sustainable development.
