[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongsangbuk-do Tokyo Office held a tasting event on the 15th in Shin-Okubo, Shinjuku, Japan, to promote the entry of Gwamegi processed products, a representative local winter food, into the Japanese market.

The event was organized in Shin-Okubo, where the 4th Korean Wave is booming with K-POP and Korean dramas, to actively promote the benefits and taste of Gwamegi.

The tasting event was attended by Kim Gwang-hoon, head of the Tokyo Office, members of the Shinjuku Merchants Association in Japan, journalists, and 40 others.

Members of the Shinjuku Merchants Association, who sell Korean food to young Japanese people in Shin-Okubo, participated to taste and evaluate Gwamegi.

A Korean food specialist was invited to demonstrate plating, cooking methods, and sales techniques to help local merchants sell the product easily.

The province expects that by selling Gwamegi not only in Korean restaurants but also in general food stores, the excellence and taste will be promoted, creating an opportunity to open export channels for Gyeongbuk seafood products.

A representative of Seoul Town in Shin-Okubo said, “Gwamegi is beneficial to health and easy to sell once stocked in stores, so if promoted well, it can sufficiently target the young Japanese generation.”

Bae Seong-gil, Director of the Job and Economy Office, said, “We hope this tasting event will serve as a foothold for local seafood processed products to enter the Japanese market.”
