[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Regarding former lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook joining the People Power Party's election campaign committee, the Democratic Party launched an offensive, calling it "shameless beyond measure," and "a person politically dead due to his father's land speculation."
Jeon Yong-gi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party's campaign committee, wrote on his Facebook on the 10th, directly criticizing former lawmaker Yoon by saying, "It has only been three months since Yoon Hee-sook resigned from the National Assembly, and what she needs now is self-reflection and restraint."
He continued, "The public still remembers the real estate speculation case involving Yoon's family as if it happened yesterday and is awaiting the investigation results," adding, "I don't think it is the time for Yoon, who has been 'morally bankrupt,' to criticize others."
Former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Min-hee also criticized on Facebook the same day, saying, "Isn't Yoon Hee-sook already politically dead due to her father's land speculation?" and "There are swarms of people involved in land speculation around Yoon Seok-yeol." She added, "Yoon Hee-sook, we have not forgotten what you did last summer. Shameless beyond measure."
Earlier, the People Power Party announced that former lawmaker Yoon would serve as the chairperson of the campaign committee's direct candidate organization, the "Tomorrow We Look Forward to Korea (Naegidae) Committee." Yoon herself announced her joining the campaign committee on Facebook. This comes about three months after she resigned from the National Assembly amid allegations of her father's violation of the Farmland Act.
Yoon explained, "After much deliberation, I thought the best way I could support the candidate was through the 'Naegidae Committee,'" adding, "The Naegidae Committee is a policy agora (public forum) that showcases the vision of Korea that candidate Yoon aims to realize and creates policies together with the public."
Yoon also launched sharp criticism targeting Democratic presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung. She said, "(Candidate Lee) should have been politically dead long ago because he treats the law lightly and is morally deficient. If he does not improve significantly, there is no hope for him. He only reacts with ad hoc measures without any consistent values or principles." Before resigning from the National Assembly, Yoon was known as the so-called "Lee Jae-myung sniper" for her focused criticism of Lee's basic income and housing purchase pledges.
