BMW Launches Android-Only Digital Key Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] BMW announced on the 9th that it will launch the 'BMW Digital Key Service' for customers with Android-based smartphones.
The BMW Digital Key is a feature that allows users to lock and unlock door locks and start the engine using a smartphone without carrying any physical keys. Additionally, the company explained that it provides industry-leading security by applying a standardized solution from CCC using eSE.
The Android-exclusive BMW Digital Key can be used by downloading and running the 'My BMW' application, which automatically saves the key in Samsung Electronics' dedicated security app, 'Samsung Pass.' It is available only for BMW vehicles equipped with the Comfort Access option. Currently, the supported smartphone models are three types of Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra running Android OS 12 or higher.

Meanwhile, BMW previously collaborated with Apple to introduce an iOS-exclusive digital key service and has been providing related services in Korea since last year. With this collaboration with Google and Samsung, BMW has become the only brand to offer digital key services on both smartphone operating systems.
