Hwang Unha "Inappropriate Parts Deleted... I Apologize"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Hwang Unha, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that supporters of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, are "mostly low-educated, impoverished, and elderly," which sparked controversy over belittling voters. He later deleted the post and apologized.
On the 29th, Hwang wrote on his Facebook, "Upon rereading the post I uploaded late at night the next morning, I found some inappropriate parts and have made corrections," adding, "Although the original draft was revised during the editing process, I sincerely apologize if anyone who saw the content overnight felt uncomfortable."
Previously, on the 28th, Hwang had claimed on Facebook that "except for about 1% of the privileged class, most of Yoon Seok-yeol's supporters are low-educated, impoverished, and elderly," which caused controversy.

View original imageOn that day, he said, "The lies and provocations of the conservative media have a strong effect," and added, "(Candidate Yoon) repeats the phrase 'overwhelming regime change' like sleep-talking without even knowing what it means."
He continued, "Only ignorant greed that believes one can become president by inciting hatred and animosity is visible."
He also claimed, "If a person who reveals only ignorance and incompetence day after day without philosophy or vision becomes the alternative, it would be a crime against history and future generations," and described it as "the worst situation where military dictatorship is combined with unchecked prosecutorial power."
However, some netizens who saw the post criticized Hwang for belittling voters.
Especially regarding the phrase "low-educated, impoverished, and elderly," harsh criticism poured in, such as "Are low education or poverty crimes?", "You should not speak carelessly," and "You are clearly expressing a sense of superiority."
