Facebook Outage Chaos "Network Equipment Misconfiguration"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Facebook has announced that a network access outage occurred due to changes in network equipment settings.
Facebook's technical team stated on their homepage on the 4th (local time), "A configuration change in the backbone router, which adjusts network traffic, disrupted communications," adding, "The interruption of network traffic affected communications between data centers, causing the service outage." A router is a device that mediates communication between networks.
Facebook said, "We believe the root cause of the service outage was an incorrect configuration change," and added, "There is no evidence that user data was damaged during the service interruption." Facebook also expressed, "We apologize to everyone affected."
Access outages occurred on Facebook and services operated by Facebook such as Instagram and WhatsApp from 11:40 AM Eastern Time on the 4th for nearly six hours. The services have now been restored.
