[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman and People Power Party presidential pre-candidate Choi Jae-hyung criticized the Korean Democratic Party presidential pre-candidate and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung’s Korean Peninsula peace policy announced on the 22nd.
On the 22nd, Choi posted on his Facebook under the title "Candidate Lee Jae-myung who intends to repeat Moon Jae-in’s failed North Korea policy, I am worried," stating, "There is no determination as a leader to protect our people from North Korea’s nuclear threat, the greatest threat to the Republic of Korea."
He continued, regarding Lee’s unification and diplomacy plan, "It only remains a claim to repeat the Moon Jae-in administration’s one-sided affection for North Korea," adding, "I am more worried than disappointed."
Choi said, "To solve the North Korean nuclear issue, the most difficult task is to get Kim Jong-un to give up his nuclear weapons. For this, Kim Jong-un must be forced to choose between 'nuclear weapons' and 'regime survival,' and to do so, the current sanctions against North Korea must be strongly enforced first." He criticized, "Nevertheless, Candidate Lee Jae-myung has come out saying he will ease sanctions first. This can only be called a misunderstanding of the operating principle of the North Korean nuclear issue."
He added, "North Korea has insulted President Moon Jae-in with all kinds of derogatory terms such as 'boiled small head' and warned him not to meddle without knowing his place. At the US-North Korea summit held at Panmunjom, which is our territory, President Moon was reduced to a 'man outside the window,' and Kim Jong-un even omitted the fact that he met President Moon in the 'diplomatic summit materials'." He further noted, "Moreover, North Korea blew up the Panmunjom inter-Korean liaison office established by the inter-Korean summit agreement."
Choi evaluated that South Korea is being humiliated by North Korea, saying, "I want to ask how much more damage Candidate Lee intends to inflict on the pride of our people by saying he will 'inherit the Moon Jae-in government.'" He sharply criticized, "Even though there has been no progress in denuclearization, seeing Candidate Lee Jae-myung talk about a 'Korean Peninsula peace economic system' makes me suspect he is talking in his sleep."
Furthermore, Choi said, "North Korea policy is a serious issue that determines the future of our Republic of Korea. A leader must come up with realistic policies after deep consideration and sometimes must deliver difficult messages to the people. Offering only rosy blueprints without implementation plans is not the attitude of a leader toward our wise people."
