Korea GM Union Requests Resumption of Negotiations with Management Two Weeks After Rejecting Tentative Agreement
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Korean Metal Workers' Union Korean GM branch announced on the 10th that it held an expanded executive joint meeting and decided to request the company to resume negotiations.
The Korean GM union conducted a member vote on the tentative wage negotiation agreement on the 26th and 27th of last month, but it was rejected as 51.15%, the majority, opposed it. The union held a meeting on this day and decided to proceed with additional negotiations with the company for the time being.
The rejected agreement included a monthly base salary increase of 30,000 won and a lump-sum payment of 4.5 million won, but it fell short of the union's original demands of a 99,000 won base salary increase and a lump-sum payment exceeding 10 million won.
