Information Security Day Ceremony... Director Yoon Joon-sang Awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaekjang
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The 10th Information Security Day ceremony was held online on the afternoon of the 14th.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the theme of the ceremony was 'Realizing a Digital Safe Nation through K-Cyber Quarantine.' It signifies building a safe and robust quarantine system in the digital space to create a digital world where citizens can use services with peace of mind.
During the ceremony, a written congratulatory message from the President was delivered, and government awards were presented to 31 individuals who have contributed to the advancement of information security. The Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal was awarded to Yoo Junsang, Director of the Korea Information Technology Research Institute; the Order of Civil Merit, National Medal was awarded to Park Sangwoo, Principal Researcher at the National Security Technology Institute; and the Order of Service Merit was awarded to Lee Kyunghyun, Professor at Pukyong National University.
Side events such as keynote speeches and the international information security conference were also held via real-time streaming on the Ministry of Science and ICT’s YouTube channel and other platforms.
The keynote speeches were delivered by Eric Goldstein, Director of Cybersecurity at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Ryu Jaecheol, President of the Korea Information Security Association; and Park Chanam, CEO of Steelyan, who was named one of Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 in 2018.
At the international information security conference, various domestic and international information security experts participated as speakers to engage in in-depth discussions on changes in the cybersecurity environment due to digital transformation, trends in information security technology, and major domestic and international information security issues.

Meanwhile, to commemorate ‘Information Security Month’ in July, promotional activities using various media such as SNS, radio, and public transportation are being conducted to encourage nationwide information security practices. On Information Security Day, a radio quiz highlighting the importance of ransomware prevention was held. Starting from the second week of July, various SNS events such as spreading ransomware prevention guidelines, information security acrostic poems, and ransomware true/false quizzes will be held sequentially.
