Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi Overtake Le Ssan Shwe
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] In the first half of this year, the domestic sales volume of the three imported car companies?Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi?surpassed that of the three foreign-affiliated automakers operating in Korea.
According to the Korea Imported Automobile Association on the 10th, the number of newly registered imported cars in the first half of the year was 42,017 for Mercedes-Benz, 36,261 for BMW, and 10,798 for Audi.
Compared to the first half of last year, registrations increased by 16% for Mercedes-Benz, 42.6% for BMW, and 7.2% for Audi.
On the other hand, the domestic sales volume in the first half of the year decreased for the three foreign-affiliated companies in Korea: Korea GM, Renault Samsung Motors, and Ssangyong Motor.
Korea GM's sales dropped from 41,092 units in the first half of last year to 33,160 units this year, a 19.3% decrease; Renault Samsung Motors fell from 55,242 units to 28,840 units, a 47.8% decrease; and Ssangyong Motor decreased by 34.8% from 40,855 units to 26,625 units.
The combined domestic sales volume of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi in the first half reached 89,076 units, exceeding the total of 88,625 units sold by Renault Samsung, Korea GM, and Ssangyong Motor.
Regarding the total domestic automobile sales in the first half, Hyundai Motor Company ranked first with 386,095 units, followed by Kia with 278,287 units.
