View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Lee Sujin, a first-term member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Seoul Dongjak-eul), strongly criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's remarks regarding the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, saying, "The entire nation is worried, but former Prosecutor General Yoon is speaking as if it’s someone else’s country, almost like a Japanese person."
On the 8th, Lee posted on her Facebook under the title "Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol’s Ignorant Perception of Nuclear Power Plants," stating, "His comment that the Fukushima nuclear accident was due to ground issues and that the nuclear plant itself has no problems is a sign of ignorance about nuclear power plants," sharply criticizing him.
She began by saying, "I am deeply concerned about former Prosecutor General Yoon’s perception of nuclear power plants," and added, "He claims that the Fukushima accident was due to Japan’s ground conditions."
She continued, "A nuclear accident is an irreversible disaster even if it happens just once," and emphasized, "Not only the nuclear plant itself but also external conditions are essential factors for nuclear safety. Ground conditions are no exception."
She also pointed out, "Japan’s discharge of contaminated water from the nuclear plant is a grave issue threatening the safety of not only our country but also neighboring countries," and criticized, "Japan claims that the contaminated water is purified and safe to drink, but there is no evidence that many radionuclides, including tritium, are completely removed."
Lee raised her voice, saying, "Even though the National Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the unauthorized discharge of Fukushima contaminated water on the 29th of last month, former Prosecutor General Yoon shows such a complacent perception, which is even beneath the level of competence."
She further criticized, "No matter how much 'anti-nuclear power criticism' is his political base, claims that the cause of the Fukushima accident and the discharge of contaminated water are not problematic are scientifically incorrect and politically irresponsible statements that disregard public safety."
She added, "It seems like we are seeing the bottom of former Prosecutor General Yoon," and said, "With such a perception, I am curious about what absurd remarks might come out in the future." She also said, "He might have had some skill in reckless investigations, but otherwise, he is clearly lacking and insufficient," and urged, "I hope he does not further confuse the eyes and ears of our people."
Earlier, on the 6th, after a meeting at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, former Prosecutor General Yoon mentioned regarding the Fukushima contaminated water discharge, "In the past, it was not a big issue, and it is not something to be viewed politically each time."
In response, Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, criticized, "This is no different from the claims of Japanese right-wing forces and the logic of the Japanese government representing them," and former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon harshly condemned, "It is hard to tell whether he is challenging the presidency of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan or the presidency of the Republic of Korea."

In reply, former Prosecutor General Yoon’s side explained, "After (our Ministry of Foreign Affairs) said it would not raise the issue in the past, the position was recently changed to raise concerns again and demand verification, so the criticism is that we are not getting cooperation from the Japanese government regarding transparent verification."
