Hyundai Motor Union Declares Breakdown of Wage and Collective Bargaining Talks... Strike Vote Scheduled for Next Month 7th
Basic Salary 50,000 Won, Performance Bonus 100% + 3 Million Won: Opposition to Management's Proposal
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The Hyundai Motor Labor Union has declared a breakdown in this year's wage and collective bargaining negotiations and has entered procedures related to industrial action.
On the afternoon of the 30th, the Hyundai Motor Union declared a breakdown at the 13th round of labor-management wage and collective bargaining negotiations and promptly applied for labor dispute mediation to the Central Labor Relations Commission. Earlier that day, the management proposed a 50,000 KRW increase in base pay (including step increases), a 100% performance bonus plus 3 million KRW, and a 2 million KRW quality improvement incentive as part of their offer.
The union plans to hold an extraordinary delegate meeting on the 5th of next month to resolve the occurrence of industrial action, and on the 7th, conduct a strike vote among all union members. If the Central Labor Relations Commission decides to suspend mediation, the union will obtain the legal right to strike.
Regarding this, the union stated, "The proposal is far from the expectations of the labor negotiation committee and the 50,000 union members," and added, "We will confidently overcome this through the three labor rights guaranteed by the Constitution."
