Cargo Truck Crashes into 5-Story Building in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul... 2 Dead, 6 Injured
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A cargo truck collided with another cargo truck on a road in Seoul, then crashed into a nearby building, causing a fire that was extinguished after about three hours.
According to the police and fire authorities, around 11 a.m. on the day in Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, a 5-ton truck transporting food ingredients and a 1-ton cargo vehicle collided on the road. The 5-ton truck then crashed into a building and stopped after hitting it.
During this process, the truck hit a gas pipe, causing a gas leak that led to an explosion and fire. The Guro Fire Station in Seoul reported that two people died in the accident, and six others, including the drivers of the vehicles involved, sustained minor injuries.
As a result of the accident, a nearby single-story building collapsed. The fire authorities explained that around 12:40 p.m., two women were found dead in the debris of the building.
A representative from the Guro Fire Station said, "After reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV), it is estimated that one of the deceased was hit by the 5-ton truck while passing by."
The other deceased was reportedly inside the collapsed building. However, the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
