Sung Il-jong: "Return to Yeongnam Party is a Frame, Political Ability Should Be Considered"
"The party leader said, 'It is important to appoint a person suitable as a presidential candidate'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Seong Il-jong, a member of the People Power Party, dismissed the ongoing controversy over the 'return to the Yeongnam Party' ahead of the party leader election as "a frame targeted by the opposing camp."
On the 4th, Seong appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said regarding the 'return to the Yeongnam Party' controversy, "There is an exaggeration in the controversy."
He explained, "The floor leader is elected by 101 party lawmakers," adding, "It is about choosing a commander who will thoroughly investigate the current government's failures and cooperate with opposition lawmakers to manage the relationship with the ruling party well."
He continued, "The goal of the party leader is to establish a government," and said, "Some say that since the floor leader came from Yeongnam, the party leader should not come from Yeongnam, but that is a very narrow view."
He stated, "Whether from Yeongnam or non-Yeongnam regions, what is most important is to appoint a suitable and political figure for the presidential candidacy within the structure related to the presidency, whether as floor leader or party leader."
