"Can I Buy a House With This Salary?"... ChatGPT Offers Instant Financial Insights When You Link Your Accounts
Personal Financial Management Service Linked to Bank Accounts
OpenAI has introduced a personal financial planning feature to ChatGPT that links to real financial data. This feature provides consumption pattern analysis and savings and loan management advice based on users' account and card transaction histories.
On May 15 (local time), OpenAI announced that, in collaboration with fintech company Plaid, it would release a preview version of its financial management service that utilizes personal financial data.
This service connects users' bank and securities accounts, as well as credit card information, to present an overview of their asset size, spending history, subscription service status, and upcoming expenses at a glance.
Users can ask ChatGPT questions such as "Help me create a savings plan to buy a house" or "What is the best way to repay my loan?" They can also receive analyses of specific spending activities, such as "How much did I spend on this trip?"
Account linking can be carried out by selecting the 'Finance' menu within ChatGPT or by entering '@Finance' to activate the feature. Currently, it is possible to connect with over 12,000 financial institutions in the United States.
OpenAI explained that when financial information is connected, ChatGPT can access balances, transaction histories, and the status of investments and debts, but cannot view sensitive information such as account numbers, nor does it have the authority to change accounts or execute transactions.
The company also emphasized that users can delete financial-related conversations at any time.
OpenAI stated that currently, approximately 200 million users per month seek financial advice through ChatGPT.
Tai Gerei, Head of Product at OpenAI, said, "By connecting accounts, ChatGPT can help users understand where their money is going and identify spending habits, enabling them to make better financial decisions."
OpenAI plans to first release this feature to 'Pro' subscription users in the U.S., who pay between $100 and $200 per month, and then gradually expand availability to 'Plus' plan users, who pay around $20 per month, as well as to general users.
