'Record Pre-Orders' Ioniq 5, April Production Reduced Due to Parts Supply Issues
Due to issues with the drive motor production equipment, April production volume reduced from 10,000 units to 2,600 units
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company is reported to have decided to reduce the production volume of its first dedicated electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, next month.
According to industry sources on the 29th, Hyundai Mobis was unable to supply the driving motor parts for the Ioniq 5 as planned due to issues with the production equipment. Accordingly, Hyundai Motor decided to cut the Ioniq 5 production plan from 10,000 units to 2,600 units next month.
A Hyundai Mobis official stated, "There were stabilization issues in some equipment during the early mass production phase," adding, "We will ensure no disruption in parts supply by promptly stabilizing the equipment."
Hyundai Motor had begun full-scale mass production of the Ioniq 5 after reaching a manpower agreement with the labor union. This was due to the vehicle's popularity, with a record-breaking 36,700 contracts on the first day of pre-orders.
