As Real Estate Tax Questions Pour In, National Tax Service Publishes First Edition of 'Housing and Taxes'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] Recently, as real estate-related tax laws have been revised one after another and inquiries to the government have poured in, the National Tax Service (NTS) published a book organizing the basic tax calculation structure, inquiry responses, precedents, and rulings. In particular, it compiled various taxes arising from the processes of housing ownership, acquisition, and transfer into one volume in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
On the 4th, the NTS announced the publication of a booklet titled "Housing and Taxes," which covers acquisition tax, property tax, comprehensive real estate tax, rental income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance and gift tax related to housing, as well as how to prepare a funding plan when acquiring a house. This book will be sold at major bookstores nationwide and online bookstores starting today, with a consumer price of 7,000 KRW. It will also be produced as an e-book and distributed for free through the NTS website.
An NTS official explained, "Recently, interest in housing-related taxes closely connected to people's daily lives has greatly increased, but since the various taxes arising from the acquisition, ownership, and transfer of housing fall under different administrative departments, it was inconvenient to resolve questions all at once. As part of proactive administration, we collaborated with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to publish a booklet compiling housing-related taxes in one volume."
This book, published for the first time this year, allows readers to find all taxes related to housing at each stage, from ownership, rental, transfer, to inheritance and gifts, all at once. First, it organizes the basic tax calculation structures and calculation examples for each tax, and also includes major inquiry responses, precedents, and rulings. Additionally, it reflects in detail this year's revisions regarding capital gains tax exemptions and reductions, as well as rental housing excluded from the comprehensive real estate tax aggregation, which are of great interest to taxpayers.
Previously, last year, the NTS distributed "100 Questions and Answers on Housing Taxes" in the form of materials via its website, and for complex cases that received many inquiries, this book enhances readability with charts and illustrations. It also includes various information helpful for fulfilling tax obligations, such as tax filing schedules for acquisition, transfer, inheritance, and gifts, how to view official housing prices, and the designation and status of regulated areas.
