Kia Sorento Wins Large SUV of the Year at UK What Car? Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Kia Motors announced on the 11th (local time) that its flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Sorento, was selected as the Large SUV of the Year at the UK's '2021 What Car? Awards.'
First held in 1978, the 'What Car? Awards' is an automotive awards ceremony hosted by the UK's prestigious automotive media outlet 'What Car?'. Kia achieved the remarkable feat of winning awards for four consecutive years, including the Picanto (City Car of the Year) in 2018, Niro EV (Car of the Year) and Picanto (City Car of the Year) in 2019, and Picanto (Value Car of the Year) in 2020.
The Sorento, which won this time, is the 4th generation model that received high marks for its excellent fuel efficiency, dynamic driving performance, and superior safety and convenience features. Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car?, explained the selection background, saying, "The Sorento, impressive for its excellent hybrid system, comfortable ride, precise steering performance, and well-equipped interior, is a versatile vehicle."
Paul Philpott, CEO of Kia Motors UK, said, "It is an honor that the Sorento, which has not been on sale in the UK market for long, has received this meaningful award," adding, "The Sorento, with its modern design and efficiency, will provide high satisfaction to customers."

Since starting sales of diesel and hybrid models in the UK last September, the Sorento has been receiving positive responses in the local large SUV market with its innovative design and advanced technology. In the first quarter of this year, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model will be additionally launched, playing an important role in expanding sales and strengthening Kia's eco-friendly brand status. In the domestic market as well, the Sorento has completed its entire lineup with diesel, hybrid, and gasoline 2.5 turbo models, gaining popularity by selling a total of 82,275 units last year.
