Soongsil University, Late Professor Lee Ban Awarded the 13th Korea Theater Awards for 'That Day, On That Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Soongsil University announced on the 24th that playwright Lee Ban, a professor in the Department of Philosophy, won the Grand Prize and Best Work Award at the 13th Korean Theater Awards for the play "That Day, On That Day," written in 1979, directed by Byeon Yoo-jung and performed by the theater company Parambul.
Lee Ban, who passed away in 2018, joined his alma mater Soongsil University in 1994 as a professor in the Creative Writing major. After retiring in 2008, he settled in Sokcho, served as the president of the Sokcho Arts Council, and played a strong supporting role in the local theater and cultural arts community. He also served as the director of the Demilitarized Zone Ecological Art Research Institute and as the executive representative of the Demilitarized Zone Arts and Culture Movement Council.

"That Day, On That Day" is a work that reflects on unification and division through the story of displaced persons who cannot forget their hometown in the North left behind. Previously, it won the Play Award at the 38th Korean Theater Festival hosted by the Korean Theater Festival Organizing Committee.
