Regarding the policy meeting to discuss the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, he stated, "The will to enact the law is firm."
On the morning of the 17th at a policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Kim said, "Minister Chu has expressed her intention to resign. She strongly pushed forward prosecutorial reform, and I respect her decision," adding, "I hope this will be an opportunity for the prosecution to start anew."
He then addressed Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, saying, "Because he is the negotiation partner from the opposing party, I have refrained from making direct remarks about the floor leader, but today I cannot hold back," and added, "Yesterday, Floor Leader Joo made remarks about the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) saying that the current administration is planning to install a person they have designated as the head of the CIO and privatize it, which is very regrettable."
He continued, "There were quite lengthy negotiations regarding the CIO, and Floor Leader Joo knows better than anyone that there is no designated head of the CIO by the government or ruling party. I do not understand why he would say such things," emphasizing, "This is a distortion of facts and sounds very malicious. I ask the People Power Party to cooperate so that a fair candidate can be recommended."
Regarding the policy meeting held in the afternoon to discuss the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, he said, "The will to enact the Serious Accidents Punishment Act to protect the lives and safety of the people is firm."
He explained, "Discussions will proceed on major issues such as the scope of application of the law, the elements of the crime, and the presumption of causation," adding, "Not only corporate managers but also after going through the policy meeting during the discussion process, the issues will be organized, and bill reviews to secure effectiveness will be conducted mainly in the standing committee."
He also said, "During the deliberation process, we will establish procedures to fully listen to the opinions of corporate managers, individual business owners, small business owners, and experts."
