S&T Motive to Supply Electric Oil Pumps Worth 160 Billion KRW to Hyundai Transys
Passenger Cars and SUVs for North American Production Equipped with Automatic Transmissions
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Eco-friendly auto parts company S&T Motive is increasing its supply of eco-friendly auto parts.
On the 15th, S&T Motive announced that it has been selected as a mass production supplier of electric oil pumps by Hyundai Transys. The electric oil pumps ordered this time will be installed in automatic transmissions of passenger cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) produced in North America by global automakers through Hyundai Transys. S&T Motive plans to supply electric oil pumps worth approximately 160 billion KRW to Hyundai Transys over seven years starting from 2023.
The electric oil pumps supplied by S&T Motive to Hyundai Transys generate hydraulic pressure by driving a motor powered by electricity from the battery, unlike the conventional mechanical oil pumps that use engine power for operation. In particular, they assist the hydraulic pressure of the mechanical oil pump mounted on the engine when the vehicle is stopped in the idle stop & go (ISG) system, improving fuel efficiency and providing an eco-friendly effect.

An official from S&T Motive said, “The electric oil pump being developed this time creates synergy through the convergence of the company’s motor, electronics (control), and oil pump technologies, forming a new eco-friendly product line,” adding, “As the global automotive market expands to electric vehicles in the future, conventional mechanical oil pumps will also need to be made electric, and in this regard, we have established a foothold for expanding future electric vehicle volumes.”
