[Exclusive] Usangho Election Camp Was the 'Moon Presidential Campaign' at Daesan Building... Announcement of Candidacy on the 13th
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Woo Sang-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, is the first among the Democratic Party candidates to officially declare his candidacy for the Seoul mayoral by-election. His campaign office has been set up in the Daesan Building in Yeouido, where President Moon Jae-in organized his campaign during his candidacy.
Woo’s office announced on the 11th, "The declaration of candidacy will take place at 10 a.m. on the 13th at the National Assembly Communication Hall." The declaration will be broadcast live via Facebook and YouTube.
The campaign catchphrase is "Prepared Seoul Mayor." In his March 2018 Seoul mayoral candidacy declaration, Woo presented three major administrative goals: ▲ Balanced Development Seoul ▲ Fair Seoul that clears out life-related corruption ▲ Children First Seoul.
The Daesan Building, where Woo’s campaign office is located, was also used by Lee Nak-yeon, the Democratic Party leader, as his campaign office during the last party convention. A representative from Woo’s office said, "This Seoul mayoral by-election has the significance of preparing for the regime’s re-creation," adding, "(Setting up the campaign office in the Daesan Building) also symbolizes receiving the energy of President Moon."
Attention is also focused on whether other Democratic Party contenders will declare their candidacy. Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said in a CBS radio interview on the 1st that the next Seoul mayor "might need to be a warm person who can embrace and comfort the hearts of Seoul citizens," but she avoided a direct answer by saying, "I’m not sure if I am warm or not." Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ju-min has not made any related remarks recently.
Meanwhile, in the People Power Party, former lawmakers Lee Hye-hoon and Kim Seon-dong, as well as Cho Eun-hee, mayor of Seocho District, have consecutively declared their candidacy for Seoul mayor. Prominent opposition candidates such as former lawmakers Na Kyung-won and Oh Se-hoon have yet to clarify their positions.
