Kia Motors Labor and Management Tug of War Over '30-Minute Overtime'... Negotiations Resume on 8th and Normal Work Resumes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The labor and management of Kia Motors are showing disagreements over key issues during the 15th main negotiation held on the 7th, repeatedly experiencing last-minute difficulties. However, since negotiations are scheduled to resume on the 8th, the planned strike for that day is not expected to take place.
According to the industry on the 8th, Kia Motors labor and management held the 15th main negotiation from 2 PM on the 7th, but reportedly showed differences over the key issue of 'restoring 30 minutes of overtime.' The labor and management plan to resume the main negotiation from 2 PM on the 8th to discuss the matter again. Accordingly, the partial strike initially planned for 2 hours each for the early and late shifts on the 8th will be postponed, and normal work will proceed.
Earlier, the Kia Motors labor union decided at the 4th Strike Countermeasure Committee meeting held on the 4th to continue partial strikes for 2 hours per shift on the 8th and 4 hours per shift from the 9th to the 11th, depending on the negotiation results on the 7th.
However, it is known that labor and management have narrowed their differences considerably on all issues except for the 'restoring 30 minutes of overtime.'
In particular, it is reported that labor and management agreed to include in the agreement a clause to review the installation of electric vehicle and hydrogen vehicle parts production lines within Kia Motors factories in the future.
