Im Sung-jae (22, CJ Logistics) expressed strong confidence. This was right after completing the second day of the 'Masters' at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA (Par 72, 7,475 yards) on the 14th (Korean time). He showed his resilience by shooting 6 under par over a total of 29 holes, including 11 holes from the first round that were not completed the previous day due to bad weather and sunset. He is tied for 5th place, just one stroke behind the co-leaders, including world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas (both from the USA).
"I think I have gained a lot of experience by participating in major tournaments last year and this year," he explained. "Although this is my first time at the Masters, I believe that experience helped me post good scores over the two days." Since starting with the 2018 US Open, he has competed in six majors but advanced to the final rounds only twice. He tied for 42nd at the 2018 PGA Championship and placed 22nd at the US Open last September. He is now in a position where he can aim for his personal best performance on the 'dream stage' of the Masters.

Among Korean players, K.J. Choi (50, SK Telecom) finished 3rd in 2004. Regarding the tournament course, Im said, "I played the full 18 holes for the first time during the Monday practice round, and I felt it suited me well." He added, "During the competition, I didn't consciously think about that; I just played confidently." He continued, "Playing many holes today was more tiring than yesterday," and added, "I will rest for the remaining time and pay attention to my physical condition for tomorrow and the 4th round."
