Notably, five of these confirmed cases were found to have had contact with confirmed cases related to a local daycare center, raising concerns about further spread.
According to Daejeon City on the 12th, five new confirmed cases (Daejeon Nos. 399 to 404) related to daycare center A located in Sangdae-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, were reported. Including these, the total number of confirmed cases related to daycare center A has reached 12.
The additional confirmed cases include the father and sister of the director of daycare center A (Daejeon No. 398), the mother of a daycare child (Daejeon No. 394), and the husband and daughter of a teacher (Daejeon No. 395). It is presumed that the existing confirmed cases related to the daycare center acted as a transmission link within families.
Earlier, at daycare center A, three children (Daejeon Nos. 392 to 394) and four teachers and staff members (Daejeon Nos. 395 to 398) tested positive for COVID-19.
In particular, one child (Daejeon No. 389) is part of a family with seven relatives (Daejeon Nos. 385 to 391) who were confirmed positive on the 10th and 11th. It was found that the family gathered for a meal together during the Chuseok holiday on the 3rd. The concern about ‘n-th generation infections’ within the region starting from confirmed cases related to the Chuseok gathering is in the same context.
Accordingly, the city plans to conduct a detailed epidemiological investigation to identify the initial infected person and the infection route among families who tested positive after the Chuseok gathering.
